How to
Keep flowers fresh
Use clean water: Always start with a clean vase and fresh, room-temperature water.
Change water daily or every other day: Bacteria builds up fast, and clean water = happy flowers.
Add flower food: Most bouquets come with it. If not, mix:
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice
1/2 tsp bleach (to kill bacteria)
in 1 quart (about 1 liter) of water
Cut at a 45° angle: It helps the stems absorb water better.
Trim every 2-3 days: Especially when you change the water.
Remove leaves below waterline: They’ll rot and cause bacteria to grow faster.
Avoid direct sunlight and heat: Keep flowers away from radiators, windows with harsh sunlight, and appliances.
No fruit nearby: Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas which makes flowers wilt faster.
Refrigerate overnight (optional): Florists often keep flowers in coolers. A few hours in the fridge at night can help.
